Thanks Chris. Actually on this one I resorted to an electric drill with a forstner bit with a lead screw..the maple plank is miserably hard. In soft woods I prefer a brace with an auger bit or for larger diameters an expansion bit.

Nice one Karl. I love the simple jig used to check the diameter of the ends. Simple :-) I hope Mike & Lee get a chance to compare notes about this with you. Do you do your drilling with an auger bit? Hand drill, brace? Thanks for sharing, CG
